라운드 전 유용한 대화

What time are you teeing off?

Let’s catch up with each other at the bar after playing.

a : We’ve got plenty of time until we tee off, so shall we have breakfast here?

b : That’s a good idea.

a : Let’s go to the club restaurant.

a : We still have some time before we go out, what shall we do?

b : Let’s go to there range then, We can practice to warm up.

a : Alright.

b : So which clubs will you use at the range?

a : Well, I will bring my 7 iron, sand wedge and pitching wedge.

a : Shall we hit some balls at there range before we start?

b : That’s a good idea.I’d like to hit at least 2 buckets of balls.

a : Don’t over do yourself.

b : You mean too much is as bad as too little?

a : Yes. Don’t leave all your good shots at the practice range.

라운드시 대화

a : Hello, nice day.

b : Good morning.

a : I’m so glad we could play together today.

a : How do you determine the honor?

b : In the UK, the lowest handicapper usually takes the honor at the first tee.

a : I see. Well then, Mrs. Kim, you’ll have the honor.

b : From the next tee onward it will be hard for me to have the honor.

a : What is your handicap?

b : My handicap is 9 and Kim’s 15. How about yours?

a : I am playing off 14. We’re playing in order of handicap. You’re 9, so you should go first.

a : I am playing with Titleist 1.

b : Mine’s Callaway 2.

a : I marked smile-k image on my balls.

a : We should play together some time.

b : Great. When can you make it?

a : How about this Saturday?

b : It’s fine. I’ll let you know after I’ve booked us.

a : Good. I’ll look forward to that.

a : Have you ever played here before?

b : Actually, this is my first time.

a : Where are you from?

b : I am from Korea.

a : What a super shot! Look like it went about 260 yards!

b : Thank you. I hit it well.

a : You have outdriven me 20 yards!

b : I wish I could always hit perfect drives.

a : Anyway it’s very hard to hit a long, accurate drive consistently.

a : You are making wonderful shots today, aren’t you?

b : That was just a fluke.

a : You’ve improved so much.

a : You have been lucky today, haven’t you?

b : Up to now, yes.

a : When you are lucky, you will be lucky.(운이 좋은 날은 계속 운이 따르죠)

b : I hope so.

a : Do you like to play golf?

b : Yes, I love to play golf, though I am not a good player.

a : What’s your handicap?

b : I am a bogey player. I hear you are a single handicapper.

a : Yes. But recently I have got my handicap up.

b : Please tell me how to be a single-digit handicap player?

a : It’s difficult for a weekend golfer to be a single handicapper. One should practice very hard everyday.

a : Here is my ball. Where is yours?

b : I’ve not found my ball yet.

a : What ball are you playing?

b : I am playing a Newing, #1.

a : I found it here.

b : Thank you, it’s just in bounds. (겨우 안쪽으로 들어와있네요)

a : Have you played today?

b : No, I just arrived a moment ago hoping to join with anyone who wanted to.

a : Would you like to play with me?

b : Who are you with?

a : The person I was supposed to play with hasn’t arrived on time and I can’t get hold of her.(연락이 안되네요)

b : When are you due to play?

a : Pretty soon, so would you like to get ready?

b : All right, then.

a : Hello, what time are you booked for?

b : I have to wait for over an hour.

a : Are you alone?

b : Yes, I am.

a : Would you like to join our party? There are two and we play in fifteen minutes.

b : Oh, thank you. I hope I don’t disappoint you.

a : Don’t worry too much. After all, it’s not a tournament.

b : Let me catch up with you at the teeing ground.

a : I’d like to know the distance to the green.

b : It’s 150 yards.

a : I can’t see the green from here.

b : It’s because this course turns to the right.

a : I see, it’s a dogleg hole to the right then.

a : How long is the carry over that pond?

b : You have to carry 230 yards over the water.

a : I guess I’d better lay up.

b : Are you sure you don’t want to go for it?

a : I’m afraid of plopping it into the water.

b : OK. Play it safe then.

a : My ball is in a divot. I wonder how I should play this.

b : It’s hard to play.

a : I will fix the divot mark for next players.

a : What’s the penalty for hitting into the water?

b : It’s a one stroke penalty.

a : If I hit my tee shot out of bounds, what’s the penalty?

b : You have to take a one stroke penalty and replay from the tee so you are playing your third shot.

a : Does the winter rules still apply?

b : Yes, Normally the winter rules are applied from November to March.

a : Then am I allowed to move the ball wherever it lies?

b : No. Only when it lies in the fairway.

a : How far can I move?

b : Within 6 inches form where it originally lay.

a : Your ball is in casual water.

b : I guess I’m entitled to get relief from it.

a : Yes. You can lift the ball and drop it at a proper point.

a : What do you go round in?

b : I usually go round in 80s.

a : I mostly go round in 92 or 93.

b : How is your play recently?

a : Very good.

a : There was no wind at all until a little time ago.

b : But it began to blow form last hole.

a : I suppose it will blow hardest on the 10th hole.

b : Now it looks like rain as well.

a : They say there are four seasons in a day in England.

a : Which way is the wind blowing now?

b : I suppose, it’s blowing against you.

a : Shall I take one club more in this case, that is, head wind?

b : You’d better do that.

a : The wind is coming behind us, isn’t it?

b : Yes, it is.

a : Well, I’ll use a one less club.

b : That will do the job right.

a : I should hit the ball more to the right.

b : That’s much safer.

a : It’s started to rain hard.

b : Do you have an umbrella with you?

a : Yes, I do. I have a rainwear too.

b : Would you like to continue playing?

a : It looks like the rain’s just passing.

a : Which way is the wind blowing?

b : It’s blowing from right to left.

a : So, it’s a crosswind, right?

a : I am sorry, but I’m on my own. Would it be ok if I over took you?

b : Sure. Go ahead. There are four of us after all. That’s a good idea.

a : Thank you so much. I’ll try to be quick.

b : Oh no, take your time.

a : Have a good game.

a : There are four of us and only two of you. Why don’t you go ahead and overtake us?

b : That’s very kind of you. We’ll try not to hold you up for too long.

a : No, don’t worry, take your time.

a : The team that’s due to play before us hasn’t teed off yet.

b : Would you like to take a break at the halfway house and perhaps get a tea or coffee?

a : I’d like a hot dog and a cup of tea.

b : The scones and pies are particularly nice here.

a : Hello, could I have a burger and a cup of tea, please?

b : Would you like milk or sugar in your tea?

a : Just milk, thank you.

a : Where are the pins today?

b : I thought they were on the near side today. (앞핀)

a : But this one looks like it’s on the far side. (뒷핀)

b : On that other hole, it looks like the pin’s in the middle of green.

a : Your ball’s sitting nicely on the green.

b : It may be on the green, but it looks like a long putt.

a : You’re a good putter so you shouldn’t have too many problems.

a : I’ve got a nasty lie here.

b : Will this break? Which way? left or right?

a : You are putting uphill against the green. I think it will break right.

b : I’ll aim a little to the left.

a : Try to get a feel of the distance.

b : Never up, never in. Hit it firm.

a : How many strokes have you hit so far?

b : I’m on in three.

a : Who is away?

b : You’re away.

a : The green is clear.

b : I’m going to aim at the pin.

a : That’s a good shot!

b : I’ve found the green nicely.

a : That’s a sure birdie.

b : I’d like to make a par at least.

a : Is this putt uphill or downhill?

b : It looks like downhill.

a : Which way will it break?

b : I think it’ll break to the right.

a : I’m getting nervous for a birdie putt.

b : Take a deep breath and concentrate on your putting.

a : Should I use the wedge?

b : The putter is safer.

a : The turf of the apron is not close.

b : You might run up with the eight iron.

a : That was nearly in! That’s a gimme, so just take the ball.

b : Thank you, but you know, sometimes I miss. I’ll try to putt in.

a : Sure, go ahead, for practice.

a : Excuse me, Will you mark your ball as it’s on my line.

b : Certainly. I’ll mark it one to the left.

a : Thanks.

a : Do you want the flag in or out?

b : Please leave it in.

a : Shall I attend it for you? (깃대를 잡아드릴까요?)

b : Yes, Please.

a : Can you help me with the line of this putt please?

b : It breaks to the right.

a : Breaks right?

b : It’s a slice line putt. If it broke to the left then it would be a hook line putt.

a : I will do my best.

b : Nice putt.

a : Thank you, Now let’s go to the next hole.

a : It’s very hard to stop the ball on the green on this hole.

b : I hit it a little too hard but it stayed on the edge of the green.

a : I will try to play out of this bunker.

b : The lip of the bunker is very high, isn’t it?

a : I have to make a shot over the bunker.

a : I’m afraid I have hit my tee shot out of bounds.

b : I saw the direction.

a : Would you think it’s better to play a provisional ball?

b : That’s a good idea.

a : OK. I’ll hit a provisional ball. It’s a number three ball, same mark as the first one.

b : Go ahead. Good luck this time.

a : According to the rule we are supposed to find the ball within 5 minutes.

b : Do you think I’ll be able to find the ball in the next five minutes?

a : If you can’t, you should play a provisional ball.

a : I’ve enjoyed your company very much today.

b : Thank you very much. I’ve never enjoyed the game more.

a : Did you par on the last one?

b : Yes, that’s right. You parred too, right?

a : Yes. That makes your score 88, then.

b : That’s right. And you played a ninety. Is that correct?

a : That’s it.

b : Here, let me sign your card, and you can sign mine.

a : Yes, I’ll sign yours.

a : He missed two birdie tries.

b : She almost birdied on the 2nd.

a : He saved a par.

b : She parred on the 7th.

a : What was your score?

b : I’ve got an 86.

a : You got and eagle.

b : I tripple-bogeyed on the 5th though.

a : Let me buy lunch.

b : Oh, thank you.

a : What would you like?

a : How long have you played golf?

b : It’s been about 10 years.

a : Did you watch the British Open on TV last night?

b : Yes. it was great, wasn’t it?

a : The lady players from your country were particularly impressive.

b : Yes, we’re very proud of them.

a : Is there any reason why the women from your country are such good golfers?

b : It’s probably because they practice so hard.

a : There’s another rising star from our country in the women’s game. Did you see the broadcast?

b : Yes, I saw her. She’s a real star in the making.

a : She failed to pass the cut-offs in the last three tournaments, but this time she hasn’t put a foot wrong.

b : Korean women golfers are truly amazing.

a : Yes, but your country has produced many more outstanding athletes in the past.

인터뷰

It was tough out there today but I made it through.

There are a few people I’d like to thank. First is my parents. I would also like to thank my wife and son.

I had a good feeling coming into this tournament.

This experience will help me more in the future.

That’s what I work for every day.

It’s not the end of the world, but it would be disappointing.
